Sentence: Max secretly delighted in mildly tormenting his 'person' — the Can Opener Lady, as he affectionately thought of her. She always wanted to go to sleep at the same time every night though, which was just strange, so it was easy to justify harassing her. He knew that staring at her while she was awake agitated her, but he'd discovered that even when her eyes were closed he could cattygoreyes her, boring his stare into the back of her head, and making her squirm. At the same time, Max would idly try to send her thoughts of getting up and work the can opener again, or making that fake mouse on a string come to life, as she sometimes did.
