Fridgremlins

Created by: Tigger

Pronunciation: /frij'-grem-linz/

Sentence: Brenda could hear something moving in there (in the Frigidaire) and when she peeked, and the light came on, she first heard a fierce squeal (or perhaps that was just the squeaky door), and then she was sure she saw fridgremlins scurrying behind the milk carton and the leftover casserole dish. She slammed the door shut and ran to find the number to the exterminator.

Etymology: fridge - shortening of refrigerator (from Latin, frīgus "cold") + gremlins - small, mischievous creatures (popularized by the RAF as a cause of mechanical failures; possibly from Old English, gremman "to anger, vex" + -lin of goblin) Don't get them wet!

metrohumanx I'm going to have to vote for this word based solely on it's nauseating construction. Even without sentence or etymology, it sounds sickening. You almost don't want to know the definition. Brrrrrrrr! - metrohumanx, 2008-12-01: 14:13:00

Putridish

thegoatisbad

Created by: thegoatisbad

Pronunciation: pyu-tre-dish

Sentence: Not prone to scientific queries, the closest Kimberly came to having an interest in science was wanting to know exactly how long she could wait to clean out her fridge. "Just, hypothetically, let's say I have a friend," she started "with several putridishes in her refrigerator. Will those contaminate other things in her refrigerator?" Zinnia, who had minored in botany, answered "It all depends on the cultures. I would worry about growing mycotoxins." This answer terrified Kimberly.

Etymology: Putrid (rotten, foul) + Dish (plate of food) Sounds like "Petri Dish"
