Seeing the cartoon has a cat and Purps' sentence mentions toast, I am reminded of "The Cat and Buttered Toast Theory." An American magazine held a competition, inviting its readers to submit new scientific theories on any subject. The winner was "Perpetual Motion" It theorized that when a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet, and when toast is dropped, it always lands buttered side down. Therefore, if a slice of toast is strapped to a cat's back, buttered side up, and the animal is then dropped, the two opposing forces will cause it to hover, spinning inches above the ground. Joan has BMW disorder (bitch, moan, whine) if there is a topic to be discussed, she has an issue with some part of it. Jane is a one-person support group. Through numerous years of vigorous training she has developed the ability to listen without really hearing and nod at appropriate moments. That way her expression never gives it away when one of Joan's tirades is a repeat, as so many of them are.
