Sentence: Melanie was a shuckster. Everytime she was given a compliment, she'd turn it into a negative, so that people would have to compliment her more to convince her it was sincere. When Georgia complimented her on her new purple dress, Melanie said she thought it made her look fat. Then Georgia would insist that the colour suited Melanie so well. Finally Georgia, who had not had any compliments in a long time, got fed up with Melanie's act in demureness. Georgia told her flatly to enjoy any compliments she got now, because in 25 years, 2 kids and a divorce later, she probably wouldn't be able to fit that little purple dress anymore. Georgia knew from whence she spoke.

Sentence: The strange sounds that echoed in my head, obviously were even funnier on my lips, for my French speaking classmates laughed till they cried. And every day my pronunciation sounded worse, and there was nothing I could do to improve it. Then one day I said to myself, Bob you’re on a winner here; milk it, be the butt of their jokes, slip in a few Malay words and they will love you even more. It was fantastic I was more popular than ever before; the hurt had gone; the “joie de jeers” were now sweet music to my ears; my emotional tank was full again, and it was seat-belts on for the joyderide of my life.
Etymology: Blend of joy, joyride, & deride. Perhaps in line with the french flavour of my sentence, the verbotomy should be, "joie de ride".

A complitangler, Pedro was always playing down his fishing skills to lure some praise from the crowd in his local pub, the Cod and Catfish. This time it backfired, Nemo put him in his plaice and told him not to hawrasse them with his self-deprecation. Pedro skated out the door and tackled the crew in the beer garden. Sentence: Despite being a rather fetching looking girl, Jemima's self esteem was always a little on the low side. When a conversation turned to negative things, she always found a way to make a self deprecating remark. In the presence of opportunistic young lads she usually got what she wanted, and offers of more to boot!
