DEFINITION: Something, or someone, that appears to be warm and fuzzy but is, when you get close, sharp and prickly.
DEFINITION: v. To offer unquestioning support and enthusiasm, when perhaps, some "constructive criticism" would be more helpful. n. Support which is given without restraint or consideration.
DEFINITION: v. To reject a compliment. May indicate low self-esteem, or false modesty, or even a psychopathic aversion to flattery. n. A person who has difficulty accepting praise.
DEFINITION: n. A conclusion or an assumption developed after careful listening to, and analysis of one-half of a telephone conversation. v. To listen to one-half of a telephone conversation.
DEFINITION: v. To be angry and disappointed (and secretly embarrassed) when your children grow up to make the same foolish mistakes that you did. n. The emotion parents feel when they see their children make the same mistakes they did.
DEFINITION: v. To push yourself so hard to reach an impossibly high standard of perfection, that you undercut your own success. n. An impossibly high goal which practically guarantees failure.
DEFINITION: v. To purchase a bauble, article of clothing, or major appliance, in order to alleviate anxiety or other psychological stress. Often leads to overspending. n. An item which has been purchased to fill an emotional void.
DEFINITION: v. To follow a diet with such rigor and fervor that it consumes all your energy, and throws everything, even your desserts, out of proportion. n. A person who thinks too much about what they eat.
