Seeing the cartoon has a cat and Purps' sentence mentions toast, I am reminded of "The Cat and Buttered Toast Theory." An American magazine held a competition, inviting its readers to submit new scientific theories on any subject. The winner was "Perpetual Motion" It theorized that when a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet, and when toast is dropped, it always lands buttered side down. Therefore, if a slice of toast is strapped to a cat's back, buttered side up, and the animal is then dropped, the two opposing forces will cause it to hover, spinning inches above the ground. Sentence: With Trish, it was hour after hour of garrulous cantversation. Pierre could never get a word in and Trish barely took a deep breath. Good looking and sexy she was, yes, but vapid and self-absorbed, he wondered why he stayed with her. It was not as if she said anything worthwhile. It was always the trivial verbal diarrhea and intellectual constipation that annoyed Pierre the most. The sad part was that she paid him so little attention that she did not even realize he could not speak English! Quel dommage!
